MEET THE OWNER

JEFF BUTCHER

President

Jeff Butcher is the President and Owner of Sentinel Safety Group LLC based out of Columbus, Indiana. Sentinel Safety, as our clients tend to call us, opened its doors for business on November 1, 2014 with the goal of offering high-quality occupational safety and industrial hygiene services to the manufacturing sector.   What started as just a few manufacturing clients in the Midwest has quickly grown under Butcher’s leadership to a national client base in multiple industry sectors.

Jeff brings to his clients over 20 years of diverse experience. He spent the first 10 years of his career building a broad skill set in the heavy industry environments of the metal manufacturing and energy sectors where he served in various capacities involving safety, industrial hygiene, security, HR and labor relations.  “Over the combined 10 years of working for great companies such as Vectren, Alcoa, and Allegheny Technologies, I always looked for opportunities to learn new skills and to grow professionally. I seemed to always wear multiple hats and continually sought out new roles, responsibilities, and courses whenever presented in efforts to advance my experience, knowledge, and skill set.” Said Butcher. In 2007, Butcher left his traditional safety manager role to work for a national safety & health products distribution and consulting firm. There, he assumed the roles of Regional Sales Manager and Director of Environmental, Health, & Safety Services.  From 2007 to 2014 Butcher cut his teeth in the safety consulting and product distribution business while also completing an MBA program, which had been a long time personal and professional goal.  “In hindsight, I spent the first 17 years of my career preparing to run and own a safety consulting firm and I couldn’t be happier with the results,”  said Butcher.  “I can’t think of a better career to fit my personality and my strengths." Jeff goes on to say "My career in occupational safety & industrial hygiene consulting offers an opportunity to strategize and problem solve across an array of industries that vary in size and need. Combine those aspects with the ability to have a very diverse work schedule, the daily challenges and opportunities involved with running a small business and the ability to see how products are made and structures are built - it's all very appealing to me. I can honestly say I enjoy what I do."

Jeff has a B.S. in Environmental Health from Purdue University where he studied Industrial Hygiene and a MBA from Ball State University. He is an OSHA Authorized General Industry 10 and 30-hour instructor and holds both the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) professional certifications.  He resides in Columbus, Indiana with his wife and three children.
